What might bring you in

Pregnancy can place different demands on your body as it changes and adapts.

Anatomical model of the pelvis and lower spine
Lower back discomfort+

Changes in posture, movement and load through pregnancy can leave your lower back feeling sore, tight or uncomfortable.

Hip or pelvic discomfort+

You may notice new discomfort around your hips or pelvis as your body changes through pregnancy.

Neck and upper-back tension+

Changes in posture and everyday movement can also contribute to tension through your shoulders, neck and upper back.

Stiffness or restricted movement+

If certain movements are starting to feel less comfortable or more restricted, your appointment can look more closely at what’s going on.

General pregnancy discomfort+

Sometimes there isn’t one specific area causing trouble. You may simply feel more uncomfortable, tight or physically limited as your pregnancy progresses.

The Approach

Comfort-led pregnancy care

Chiropractic care in pregnacy is all about optimising pelvic position, spinal alignment and supporting a calm regulated nervous system to keep you as comfortable as possible and best prepare your body for birth.

Optimal pelvic alignment and mobility is important as it allows for the ligaments and soft tissues to support a growing uterus.
It also allows for efficient labour, helping the baby to move down through the pelvis as well as helping to reduce physical strains on the body that come from a growing baby.

Studies have found that chiropractic care during pregnancy may lead to shorter labour times, reduced pain and even fewer interventions during birth (Borggren 2007, Fallon 1991, Ohm 2005).

Care after your baby arrives

The postpartum period is a crucial time for healing, recovery and  support. While so much of the focus naturally shifts to caring for your new born, your body is also under going significant physical and hormonal changes.

1 in 3 women will have musculoskeletal problems after giving birth (Vogel J, Jung J, Lavin T et al. 2023), making postpartum care so important.
‍
During pregnancy and birth there are five main changes that can persist well into the postpartum period. These include; stretching and thinning of abdominal muscles, altered breathing patterns, postural changes, changes to internal pressure system, and postnatal depletion both hormonally and nutrtionally.
‍
Postpartum appointments are designed to assess how your body is coping with these changes to ensure its adapting properly and to help nuture and strengthen your body so you can keep looking after your little one.
